Rode my bike up the Elwha River road yesterday in Olympic National Park,
from the boundary south to the bridge, and saw a lot of swifts (100+)
circling overhead, most notably just north of the ranger station where the
road crosses over an old terrace high above the river. The light was poor
but as far as I could tell they were all Vaux's Swifts. It was so cold and
windy it seemed like a miracle for them to find enough flying insects up
there.
