This is a belated report due to the curse of the information age - computer problems.

It was a coldish day in Snohomish on May 5, and not too dry either, when I saw two Turkey Vultures circling very low above where I was working in a yard overlooking the Pilchuck River valley. Soon a third bird showed up and tIhey all circled around and around above me without a flap , and I wondered how they could get any lift on a day like this. Of course I was on the lawn end of the air column where it was the coolest. The higher they got the faster they rose so there was some warm air up there. Soon they were headed off North. Interestingly one of the birds was missing quite a few secondary feathers looking quite 'molty'. I dont know when typically Vultures molt but this seemed an inopportune time to do so. However it soared along as well as the other two.

May 6 my yard in urban north Everett was 'awarsh in wobblers' mostly 'Audubons' Yellow-rumped, but also FOY Orange-crowns (singing) and a few FOY Wilsons. On the ground was a Lincolns Sparrow, a pretty rare critter in my yard. I'm always amused watching Yellow-rumped Warblers, the close following of which could cause one severe neck damage - amazingly zippy compared to many of their other warbler associates. I wonder why. Fair number of Yellow -rumps since the 6th, and a few of the others, but as we all know it's cold and slow this year.
