hi tweeters-trying to escape the rain ,we drove east over i-90 sunday am---along crab creek ,county line ponds, potholes,sewage ponds by rest stop east of george + to leavenworth----72 species on sunday---highlites were nesting AMERICAN AVOCETS along crab creesk w/ 3 eggs-we had seen avocets at this same pond years?7? ago---county line ponds were wonderful for shorebirds-numerous AM.AVOCATS ,B/N STILTS ,WILSON'S PHALAROPES; as well-LONG BILLED DOWITCHERS,KILLDEER, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,+ ducks incl-CINNAMON TEALS--of note was the incredible brightness of plumage coloration -WOW-- we also saw 1 WHIMBREL in a fiELd south of the road west from sullivan dam to the dodson road + 1 LONG BILL CURLEW in a field west of dodson rd.---the next highlite were the 2 ponds east of the east lane rest stop by George---nesting AM.AVOCETS,B/NSTILTS,sev. duck species-but the best were 4 pairs of breeding plumage RED-NECKED PHALAROPES!---gorgeous--usually need an arctic trip to see them so colorf!
ul-- 5 SWALLOW SPECIES 12 SHOREBIRD SPECIES---on monday we birded the chilly leavenworth=---fish hatchery highlites---at first slow but quality prevailed--at leat 8 TOWNSENDS SOLITAIRES + 2 MALE MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS, RUFOUS+ CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS -- AMERICAN DIPPER w/ 2 LARGE BABIES right under the bridge across the spillway as you enter the back area---MANY YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS. it seemed they got to leavenworth + didn't want to go uphill!-also seen at the fish hatchery + 8 mile campground were NASHVILLE WARBLERS + 2 total WESTERN TANAGERS9very low count for may there)---the road is out up the icicle at 8 mile due to a 700' mudslide, but will be repaied by memorial day----also at 8 milec/g-was a pair of CASSIN'S VIREO + 1 MALE TOWNSEND'S WARBLER+, MACGILLVARY'S WARBLER-lots of CASSINS FINCH + EVENING GROSBEAKS around leavenworth--very slow up on MOUNTAIN HOME ROAD except for numeours flocks of BRIGHT YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS! -TOTAL SPECIES -96 - The bouns was we didn't get !
