Belated, but on Saturday morning saw VIRGINIA RAIL in narrow grassy/watery channel on west side of Canal Rd behind baseball area. Also there: a pair of WILSON WARBLERS, lots of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS (myrtle) and a fledgling SONG SPARROW with parent in brambles.
Also at Fill, have been watching a mated pair of NORTHERN FLICKERS successsfully excavate a nest in a snag over the past few weeks. On Saturday, they mated right in front of me.
The snag is a favorite resting and preening site for lots of TREE SWALLOWS, CROWS and ROBINS.
