Greetings all,

We had an excellent day today off Westport on Westport Seabird's second trip of the year.? The weather started out wet and drizzly with calm seas turning to rough seas without the precipitation.? We encountered good numbers and excellent views of both Red and Red-necked Phalaropes in breeding plumage.? Also seen were good numbers of Long-tailed Jaegers, a few Parasitic and 1 Pomarine.? The big surprise were the Murphy's Petrels we encountered throughout the day.? We had quick but good views of the first several individuals that we encountered before a few more made closer but still quick passes by the boat.? Scott Mill's keen eyes picked up a Mottled Petrel at a distance that a few trip participants were able to see.?

Laysan Albatross were again observed for the 2nd trip in a row.? The first was seen at a distance only by a few observers.? The 2nd was flushed off the water as we approached it where it was visible for all to see.

The other surprising birds of the day were a few passerines that attempted to land on the boat far offshore.? 2 Wilson's Warblers landed on the boat briefly as did a Warbling Vireo.?

Our next trip is scheduled for June 25th and still has room.? Birds of interest seen in past June trips include Short-tailed Albatross, Ashy Storm-Petrel and Horned Puffin.? So hope to see you out there!
