Having just returned from Wenas, I can report that the road was passable at 11 PM Friday night in a Subaru forester. Yes, there is a wide swath of water over the ?road?, but it is passable.



A few notes:



There are at least 3 pairs of White Headed Woodpeckers in the area.



There was a Great Horned Owl calling in the camp ground. On the drive in from Ellensburg, there were at least 4 other Great Horned Owls on posts along the way, and a Barn Owl.



There is a Red tail Hawk nesting in a large ponderosa Pine on the hill to the north of the campground. The bird was very sensitive to our presence.



I did not detect a Northern Pygmy Owl in the area, but tooting elicited a quick response from the natives.



POORWILLS are back. There were at least 3 calling early this morning. I did not try for FLAMs..

I was on this road on Thursday. The road has had some good wash outs (water still running over the road in good quantity) before the cattle guard and currently, will be very difficult to get over the cattle guard in a passenger vehicle without wrecking the front end. A 4x4 pickup will clear it. Hopefully DNR will regrade this area of the road after the water levels subside.
