Last time we posted a video of the American Dipper nest that we
located, the female was incubating eggs. Now, three weeks later, the
male and female are actively feeding at least two nestlings, bringing
them sculpins, grubs, and various aquatic insects. We did a followup
video showing several dipper behaviors that we found fascinating. Go
to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8bkjt6gQy0 to watch. We spent
about two hours observing the nest on Sunday, and the adults
(together) brought food back to the nest 36 times during that time
frame.

Later, while exploring along the Dosewallips River, we observed a
male and female Harlequin Duck pair diving and floating together down
the river. Varied Thrushes and Pacific Wrens sang in the forest, and
the Vine Maple leaves spattered the spring forest with maple spring
green. Liberal Flowers were in bloom, as was Forget-Me-Not and
Calypso Orchid. Maidenhair Ferns shivered in the spray of a small
waterfall. It was a beautiful day to be out.

At least six Elk were resting along the waterfront, causing Fish &
Wildlife to temporarily close access to a day use area of Dosewallips
State Park.
