I observed a woodpecker Sunday atop a lone Doug-fir in my neighbors yard (a sprawling developement with no other mature trees within 500 yards) that I can only conclude was a White-headed Woodpecker. I realize this would be an uncommon bird for the Puget Sound lowlands but what other woodpecker sports a white head and calls with a loud clear "cheek"?
