Made it to Juanita park Monday eve. Nice to see Mr. and Mrs. Oliver, who pointed out the Gray Flycatcher. Thanks to the Olivers and Ryan! Olie showed me a tripod brace that is likely to lengthen my life and ease future physical distress.


Also of note were very young Virginia Rail hatchlings. Could have broken shell that day. These little black birds had a distinctive vocal presence and were very fast. Unlike mom, they left a vocal trail and made the grass move- but the movement was barely perceptible. The first I have seen. Got to watch them for some time. Mom made a short visual and many startling auditory appearances. It was amazing to me that she was a few yards away and would move through the tall grass with no noticeable movement of any kind. Also heard and saw what appeared to be Purple Martins- a very pleasant sound in the late evening.


Nice time of year, when the difficult part is knowing and choosing- I could go anywhere in the state and see many wonders.
