Hi All,

I always felt that Pine Grosbeak would eventually be added to the
Bainbridge Island bird list. But I was thinking it would be likely on
some irruptive year in fall or winter, not near the end of May. While
helping out on a "bird-walk" at Battle Point Park with a group of 2nd
graders, we came across a female/imm. male Pine Grosbeak feeding on weed
seeds in the grass at the base of a deciduous tree. Go figure! I was
happy that one of the parents had brought along their camera.

While the grosbeak was a real big hit with me, the kids were much more
thrilled by the River Otter in the pond on this "bird walk".

Cheers and good birding (rain or shine),
