Subject: [Tweeters] snoqualmie pass hummingbirds

The hummingbirds have arrived in force at Snoqualmie Pass, last week seen
upwards of around 300 ounces of nectar usage per day for a few days there. It
remains relatively busy and should for a week or two.
I am a little slow to posting this year because I am going through a number
of changes in my life.
As always, 99.9% of the hummingbird remain Rufous. I personally saw my
first Calliope (at my house) about 10 days ago, though there have been
occasional reports of a calliope or two in previous years. Hummingbirds
that others have seen (and are reasonably verifiable) are Black Chin and
Anna?s). Those, however, are infrequent. I have seen an Anna?s once, but
that was last winter when it ?wintered? here for ten days before leaving for
presumably more reasonable pastures?
There are many females building their nests. During a recent banding
session an occasional egg or two was seen.
Activity should remain busy for a week or two. It should decrease in
activity once we get strongly into June, but then it should pick back up in
July as the fledgings come out.
Sugar Box Donations. ? The ?sugar box? that I had out last year was
destroyed over the winter and therefore is not here! If you wish to make a
sugar box donation (money that goes towards the purchase of sugar), you may
leave such a donation underneath the mat of the upstairs door. If you are
high tech you may send a donation via paypal to chris.caviezel at gmail.com
where at is ? at ? and everything is combined.
