Tweeters,

Three of us went to JBLM (Fort Lewis) yesterday for a quick trip to find the
Yellow-breasted Chat. No luck either seeing or hearing it - although Steve
Herman and I did hear it when we visited last Wednesday.

We did get quite a few other birds, mostly the usual species at the usual
places. Notable was a pair of LAZULI BUNTINGS at OP (observation post) 2,
which we saw copulating below us. Because OP 2 is quite elevated in relation
to the prairie to the west, the view of the male bunting, which was on a
shrub below and by itself when we first saw it, was absolutely striking -
intensely blue under exceptional viewing conditions. We also heard Vesper
Sparrows and Western Meadowlarks singing in the distance.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
