Hi Tweets:
Sorry to fwd this msg so late. Dave and Yvonne Slater sent this msg about a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER at Marymoor on Monday. I thought Michael would write to Tweets, but he may be out of town. Dave & Yvonne sent pictures too, and I could forward them. They show the Marymoor OSPRey nest in the backround.
This may be only the second LEWOodpecker ever at Marymoor. This bird is a code 4 in King County. Wow!
Yours, Carol Schulz

Michael,
It was great to talk with you at Marymoor today. 30 minutes after birding with you I spotted a Lewis's Woodpecker in a Black Cottonwood tree. We were walking back to the car along the tree line north of lot G and the garden. It was about noon today. Location follows.
The tall tree is found at the southwest corner of field #9. There is a red exit sign, the cottonwood is about 100 feet south east of the sign. The sign is at the south ends of fields 16 and 9. There is an opening in the split rail fence at that point. The tree is just south of that opening in the split rail fence. A small creek runs to the west side of the cottonwood.
We watched the woodpecker for 30 min. The bird kept landing about 30-40' up in the tree on the north side of the tree. It sallied to a wooden post about 200' north of the red exit sign several times. We did not have a telephoto lense with us, but hope these photos will suffice. Yvonne had only a 200mm lense on the camera. The bird was an adult Lewis's Woodpecker with a dark red face and pale gray collar. The belly was pink. Flight pattern reminded us of a crow.
I will copy my friends Carol Schulz and Steve Johnson as I believe they might enjoy also. We did the best we could. We walked and drove around the park looking for you to share, as we knew you would enjoy it, but had no luck finding you.
Take care, Dave and Yvonne Slater
