Yeah, back when I had a dishwasher job at a waterfront restaurant in Bellingham, I used to notice Killdeers running around the parking area and beyond late at night. The area is now more built up, such as a luxury hotel, etc. that wasn't there in those days. I was attending WWU then. On one occasion I bumped into two Upland Sandpipers among them. I only actually saw one, but a second was returning its calls from somewhere in the dark. (Notice their big eyes, in illustrations). That was on August 29th, 1990. It had been raining earlier before that incident late at night.

Last night while walking through the Montlake Fill (6:30-7:00pm) I noticed a pair of Killdeer flying and vocalizing. I'm fairly sure that I've heard the same calls from above my house (near the Green Lake Reservoir) at night. Is this type of nocturnal activity normal for Killdeer? Has anyone else made similar observations?
