Hi Tweeters,

This morning (11/7/11) I was able to relocate the WHITE-TAILED KITE at
Willow Grove reported yesterday by Guy McWethy and Randy Bjorklund. It was
opposite the entrance to Willow Grove Park and was dining on some rodent.
It appears to be a juvenile as it has some buffy streaking on the breast
and it has white outer tail feathers with the rest still showing gray. This
is the first record for Cowlitz County since December 2008 when we had a
snow event that lasted for a couple weeks and seemed to decimate the kite
population in southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. Prior to this time
there were regularly 5 kites at this locaation. Thanks for the post guys.

I didn't see the Red-shouldered Hawk, but a knowledgable local stopped to
chat and said she'd seen it a number of times in the last week. She was
glad to hear of the kite which she hadn't seen yet.
