Dear Tweeters,

Bob Kuntz and I observed the Snow Bunting at March Point again today (11-13-2011), right at the tip of the point, where Ryan Merrill found it on Friday. We watched it from around 1140 to 1225 or so. Sometimes when a car would drive around the bend here, the bird would drop down to the beach. When we last saw it, it flew over the big black berm.

Also at March Point were close to fifteen Sanderlings; a flock of Mew Gulls also included four Bonaparte's Gulls.

Bob and I spent about a half hour scoping a huge icterine-starling flock at the dairy on Thomas Road, just south of Sunset Road, but found no rarities. Nonetheless, this promises to be a great spot from which to search for Rusties. As far as I recall, not one single car drove by during this time--maybe everyone was watching football. The "stackbirds" were on the road, on a lawn, and also out in the field with the swans. The small flock of Snow Geese continues to forage here with the swans.

On my way home, I birded Northern State Recreation Area, just east of Sedro-Woolley. There were lots of sparrows there, plus an American Kestrel and quite a few American Robins, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
