Tweeters,

A small group of us decided to try for the Snowy Owl and Black Phoebe in Stanwood today and it was a YES for both.

At the very end of Thomle Rd, the SNOWY OWL was on the farthest dike. Good views with a scope, but far for just binoculars. A SHORT-EARED OWL was cruising closer in along with a few NORTHERN HARRIERS. I am wondering if you could see the Snowy closer from Foe Rd on the other side of the river? Driving down Thomle we also spotted an AMERICAN KESTREL, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and many BALD EAGLES.

With directions from Michael Willison's earlier post we headed up to Copper Way NW. If you google the road it does come up with good directions. The first pond had the BLACK PHOEBE. He was easy to find, calling many times and actively foraging. The phoebe would sit on top of the fence and swoop down for insects. While watching the phoebe there was a NORTHERN SHRIKE that flew past and perched on a nearby tree before moving on.
