To all, you have given me a great education.

The ID of a Juvenile Rough Legged Hawk Dark Morph has been confirmed.
Given that I had most often seen the lighter colored variations my
initial thought about this bird was "what the heck is it", now I
understand that I have to pay more attention to all the fine details.
For reference, here is the link to the image gallery:

The most surprising ID information that I received was this, from Kevin
Black:
"4. Also indicative of Rough Legged Hawk is the very small outlets of
branches on the tree that the Hawk is perched on. Red-Tailed Hawks perch
on the base/end of branches rather the smaller outlet of branches that
come off of the main branch. Your hawk also seems to perch over more
slanted forward than a Red Tailed would, Red Tailed perch in an
upright position than your hawk."

I never would have thought to look for what they perched on or how they
perched to help with an ID. Another thing to consider when stuck.

Again, thanks to all of you for your help and generosity in sharing
knowledge. I hope that others on the list learned a bit as well.
