Well, it may not be as exciting as a Snowy Owl, but I had the first
Evening Grosbeak of the season at my feeder just now. Last week
there was a Pacific Loon on our lake for one day?only the second time
in 21 years that I have seen one on Fawn Lake.

Unrelated, but in October I observed Bull Trout in their spawning
grounds in the North Fork Skokomish River at Staircase. It turns out
that these huge and threatened trout have been studied in this
location, with about 250 observed by scientists in a river census
several years ago. If the birds aren't cooperating, look in the river!
