Hello Tweeters,
Today was not my good Day!!!!! I started late after 11.00 AM decided going
to Ocean Shores. No traffic at all,and the Sun came out.My first stop was
Driftwood the Ocean Side, the tide was all the way in,you could not walk 1
foot. The huge amount of Driftwood was pushed in to the Edges, and there was
two men with Gun's where shooting at something what I could not see.Next to
The Sewage Ponds where I run in to Brad & Dan Waggoner with there Dad.There
found an Adult Emperor Goose.I took some Photos of this bird ,since I never
had a full Adult bird of this species.I ask him about the Snowy Owls and
there did not find any yet, this was at after 3.00PM and the attendee was
closing so early. There was another Birder and she did not had the Snowy Owls
who was reported on Taurus Exit.We both decided going and take a walk on
Damon Point ,way out there where we had in the past high count on Snowy
Owls.I was prepared with my Camera& Binocular's. It looked the tide was
going out,But we both use the small area with part of the Jetty,When A BIG
WAVE came and pull me down to the ground the water rushed over me.I needed
some help to get up,but my drenched Clothing was so full of water that I
hardly could walk.I went to my car and stripped most all my heavy underwear
off including Socks, and since I had my Gortex Rain Pants whipe them
dry,(there was dry in 10 minutes turning the heat up high. This is what
saved me,but I was not in the mood going another three hours hiking with
little heavy clothing. I never saw it coming, been going to Ocean Shores
for years hearing this stories and even witnessed them close to the big
Jetty looking for birds ,and get soaked. When I looked, the tide was out
quite way,but still coming back in huge waves.I run in to all tree Wagonner
in Bowerman Basin,It been a while since I been there. Now there are 3
separate Ponds with huge mounds of dirt and Stones separating each pond
what looks great ,and probable attract more birds, also Shorebirds.I was
looking for maybe a Tufted Duck, what we had in the past least 5 times. Lot's
of Waterfowl, but I got real cold, this standing only 10 minutes.I ask Brad if
there found any Snowy Owls,so the high tide kind of messed this all up.But
the told me that there where many accident where I got surprised being hit
with such big waves of Water
I am also sure that the Owls staying in Ocean shores all winter. It was a
great day especial the Weather so great!!!!!

Cheers Ruth
