HI ALL:
At 2:22pm today, I got a call from Brad Waggoner and he had just found a
Swamp Sparrow off of Lovgreen Road here on Bainbridge Island, WA. I
arrived there about 15 minutes later and we started checking the field on
the north side of road. We started pishing and after awhile the sparrow
popped up again! Brad got it in his scope and we studied it for a couple
of minutes. It reminded me of a cross between Lincoln's and
White-throated sparrows. This bird was a state bird for me!
If you're interested, Lovgreen Road is located just over 3 miles NORTH
of the Bainbridge Ferry terminal on the left/Westside of Highway 305.
Once on Lovgreen drive about 3/4 of a mile until you come to a field on the NORTH side of
the road with a WHITE Farm house on the field's west end. The Swamp
Sparrow was seen near a group of metal fence posts with wire fencing. This
landmark is toward the east end of the field. Also in the area were a
Hairy Woodpecker, flocks of American Robins and Red-winged Blackbirds.
Other sparrows seen include: Song, Lincoln's, Golden-crowned and
White-throated, plus juncos.
