Hello Tweeters,
Thanks to everyone who gave me information on birding the areas along south I-5. We birded there on Saturday. My wife and I did not find the Vermillion Flycatcher at Ridgefield NWR even though we made two trips around the auto trail. No trip to Ridgefield is a waste of time, there were plenty of other birds to see. I live far enough north that I still enjoy seeing the Western Scrub-Jays. They seem to have become quite common in SW WA.
We drove through the Woodland Bottoms where we saw a flock of about 75 Great Egrets which seemed like a large number. There also was a flock of around 200 Sandhill Cranes in a corn stubble field.
We went over to Willow Grove Road, west of Longview. We found a Red-shouldered Hawk that has been reported there. It was just west of the entrance to the park which has the boat launch and swimming area. It is a beautiful bird. No White-tailed Kite though.
We had a break in the weather and had a great trip.
