There were at least 4 Western Grebes dead or dying last week at Grayland State Park also.

Yesterday we found 2 freshly dead Western Grebes and 1 Grebe that looked like it would soon be dead on the beach at the jetty and at the Taurus access at Ocean Shores. There were no obvious signs of why they were dying; they were not obviously emaciated and the feathers of the dead ones looked clean and healthy. There was also a group of 4 that was only a few feet from shore in water that was only a few inches deep at the edge of the waves, although they displayed no signs of trouble. We wondered the same thing about why there were so many dead or dying Western Grebes.
