HI ALL:
Just before 1:00pm today I got a call from Brad Waggoner and he had just
refound a Snowy Owl that has been hanging around the Driftwood Key area of
Kitsap County. I arrived there just before 2:00pm and found the bird
perched on the roof of the house at 38023 Hood Canal Drive NE (just past
the intersection with Canal Lane on the lefthand side). I watched it for
about half an hour. Other people came by and photographed the owl. It
appears to me to be a Hatch-Year female (heavily spotted).
After the owl I drove back to Hansville and saw Brad at Norwegian Point
Park, scanning the sound. He had several Bonaparte's Gull , one California
and Heermann's Gulls, and several alcids (mostly Common Murres and Marbled
Murrelets). I did get a quick view of an Ancient Murrelet on the water.
The owl moves around so check other rooftops if you don't see it at the
address above.
