Tweets - I spent a day in Jefferson County today, in part trying to find two
personal nemesis birds for that county - Northern Harrier and Ring-billed
Gull. I got one of them...

I started at Shine Tidelands, then went across SR-104 to Shine (Shine Rd.,
Meredith Rd., Joan St., and Margaret St.) There are some interesting areas
over there, and I had WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and WILSON'S
SNIPE, just to name a few (the last two on Joan St.) Between Shine
Tidelands and Shine, I had 46 species.

The next area I visited was the whole Beaver Valley / Egg & I / Center Rd /
W. Valley Rd. area. I drove Embody Rd., off Beaver Valley Rd., which was
kind of interesting with a pond and a
marsh. I didn't find anything special there, but it was a new road for me
and it shows promise.

Just south of the west end of Egg & I, I had a flock of CANADA GEESE that
had at least 2 of both CACKLING GOOSE and GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE. At a
clearcut on W. Valley, I managed
to turn up ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, BROWN CREEPER, RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER, and
HAIRY WOODPECKER.

Center Rd. had 35+ TRUMPETER SWANS. Just after I confirmed that there
weren't any Tundras in with them, I figured I ought to just scope around a
bit and see if anything else was there. Moments later,
a NORTHERN HARRIER flew through my scope view!

At Port Hadlock, I had a great show as a PEREGRINE FALCON made 5+ stoops on
a RED-TAILED HAWK perched on a highway sign. This was just near the
entrance to the Port Hadlock Inn & Marina. On Indian Island there were 6
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER. I didn't turn up much at Fort Flagler.

Port Townsend mostly disappointed. Even though it was only 2 pm, it was
pretty much too dark to scope alcids from Point Wilson. I did find 2
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES on 45th St. just north of the Jr. Hi. That was
based on an old eBird report that placed them at the school.

Despite scrutinizing every gull every where, I couldn't turn up a
Ring-billed Gull.

So, 85 species for the day, with nothing particularly rare, but it was a
good day.
