Peter Donaldson's note? indicated it was Wildlife Services (Dept of Agriculture) that shot the owl, not Fish and Wildlife Service (Dept of Interior).? FWS gave up the "animal damage control" responsibilities 25 years ago.

Bud and Tweeters,

It has been confirmed. Most the postings about the snowy owl have been from the yahoo group Hawaii Birding. Unfortunately it was shot by Fish and Wildlife when it landed on an active runway.?

An update on the owl.--it was at Honolulu International
Airport on Nov 24, not Nov 28. I have received a photo of the
bird, and it is undoubtedly a Snowy Owl, the first record for
the region.
