Hi Tweeters,

While awaiting the arrival of the Black-tailed Gull today at the log booms,
I was scanning every inch of log and came upon an interesting shorebird. I
noted a slightly drooped, fairly long and thin bill and uniform
gray upperparts with pale lower breast and belly. The size (slightly
smaller than a turnstone), behavior and all field marks pointed to nothing
other than a Rock Sandpiper. I wondered if i was out of mind though since I
figured there were probably no county records in Pierce (?) county. Looking
at Matt Bartell's county list project spreadsheet (thanks John P.), there
are previous records. For anybody going to the log booms tomorrow, I saw
the bird on the outer edge of the furthest log boom to the left of the
viewing area on Marine View Drive. Initially, it was on top of a log and
then it slowly walked to the left and down and behind a log and out of
view. Eventually, I walked down Marine View Drive to scope that side of the
log but the bird was gone. I also scanned the Black Turnstone flock
multiple times but couldn't turn up anything different other than a few
Least Sandpipers.

I hope it is refound.
