Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 6. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On September 29 a winter plumaged LARK BUNTING was photographed at Yachats.
A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was at Fields and a MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at Benson Pond
in Malheur NWR October 2.

Large flocks of BROWN PELICANS are now being seen along the coast as the
birds drift southward. Heavy movements of WHITE-FRONTED, CACKLING, and SNOW
GEESE continue to be reported. TURKEY VULTURES and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS
were conspicuous migrants during the week.

On October 2 a SKUA was seen from shore at the North Spit of Coos Bay. On
September 29 two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS, a MARBLED GODWIT, and a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was photographed September 29 on Sauvie Island. Large
numbers of shorebirds, including the STILT SANDPIPER, continue to be seen at
Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland. On October 1 a BURROWING OWL was seen
along Parker Road west of Lebanon. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and a MARBLED
GODWIT were seen during the week among the swarm of shorebirds at Fern Ridge
Reservoir.

On October 1 a BROAD-WINGED HAWK passed the Green Ridge Hawkwatch Station
near Camp Sherman. An adult GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was at Tumalo Reservoir
near Bend October 1. On September 30 a LAPLAND LONGPSUR was at Wickiup
Reservoir south of Bend.
