Hey tweets, despite the fact that today was a football Saturday, the
birds were fantastic. More birds than people, I wot. The winter ducks
were especially spectacular: 3 Ruddies, 3 Buffleheads (they're
back!!), numerous American Wigeons, 7 Northern Pintails, a big flock
of Ring-necked mixed with a few Lesser Scaup, and the Wood Ducks were
reportedly out in force (although I didn't see any). Also, a flock of
Common Mergansers flew by but wouldn't settle in the lake - too many
ginormous boats I think, all lined up for football. The boats were
helpful in herding numerous Horned Grebes to fish on the Fill side of
the lake - I couldn't count them all, as they never seemed to surface
all at once.

On land, things were quite quiet until I reached SW Pond, where the
bushes were so crammed with passerines as to defy belief. Among the
Song Sparrows, White-crowned, Lincoln's, Savannahs, American
Goldfinches, House Finches, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Bewick's Wrens
was at least one Pine Siskin. First of year bird for me. In this same
habitat recently were Fox Sparrows, a Pacific Wren, lots of Yellow-
rumped Warblers, and a beautiful male Purple Finch. Two Western
Meadowlarks were walking and flying in Hunn Meadow West.

A great day. - Connie, Seattle
