Birders,

A shorter than usual visit to Point Roberts on Sunday produced 48 species. Somewhat unusual were 2 out-of-place SNOW GEESE resting on the waters off Georgia Strait about 200 metres offshore.

There were lots of marine birds off Lighthouse Marine Park (mostly gulls, cormorants, and Common Murres, with a few loons of all 3 regular species). They were not actively feeding, but it looked like there had been a feeding frenzy recently, and the birds were waiting for another school of fish to appear. The commercial fishery opening on Sunday morning was already over-- no fishboats were seen.

I did not find the hoped-for Heermann's Gulls or Ancient Murrelets, but the next 2-3 weeks should be a good time to look for these species at Point Roberts.
