Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 17 a WHEATEAR was seen at Pistol River, south of Gold Beach. An
EASTERN PHOEBE was seen October 14 at Little Whale Cove near Depoe Bay. On
October 18 a CHESTNUT-COLALARED LONGSPUR was found at Flores Lake. Some
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were also in the area.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were reported during the week from Pistol River, near
Langlois, and at Yaquina Bay.

Heavy migrations continue with the most conspicuous were CACKLING GEESE,
SANDHILL CRANES, and TURKEY VULTURES moving southward over the Willamette
Valley. A flock of about 350 WHITE PELICANS were seen during the week flying
over the Portland area. Up to 1200 BROWN PELICANS are now gathered at
Bandon, while about 6000 are still at the mouth of the Columbia River.

On October 13 two CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at McVay Rock Park south of
Brookings. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, two PALM WARBLERS, and a SAY?S PHOEBE
were near Flores Lake October 16. On October 16 a MOCKINGBIRD was at Boiler
Bay Viewpoint.

An early NORTHERN SHRIKE was at Smith/Bybee Lake in North Portland October
13. On October 14 a female SURF SCOTER was on Lake Oswego. A LAPLAND
LONGSPUR was seen October 16 along Parker Road west of Lebanon. A SABINE?S
GULL and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER continue at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On October 13 a group of 12 SURF SCOTERS was on Suttle Lake in Santiam
Pass. A female SURF SCOTER was at the LaGrande Sewage Ponds October 14.
