Dear Tweeters,

I spent several hours today and yeserday trying to find an Ancient Murrelet in Skagit County, but no dice. It was nice that Bonaparte's Gulls have finally shown up here in decent numbers--way overdue. There were goodly flocks of them at Green Point and Jensen Access this weekend.

Best bird of the weekend for me was a young male REDHEAD at Lake Erie. I'd not seen a Redhead in Skagit since 2008, although they used to be regular at several locations here.

Unfortunately, only moments after I'd located this bird in a flock of 220 Aythya ducks, a guy in a motorboat deemed it prudent to go roaring up and down the lake, right through the waterfowl flocks, sending them all into the sky. Why anyone would bother with a speedboat on such a puddle is beyond me--makes about as much sense as a monster truck in Manhattan.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
