Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 27. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 20 an EASTERN BLUE JAY was reported from Todd Lake south of Bend.
A possible CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was seen October 23 at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River. A female VERMILION FLYCATCHER was photographed
October 24 at Ridgefield NWR. A MANX-TYPE SHEARWATER was off Boiler Bay
October 23.

Massive movements of gulls were reported during the week along the coast. On
October 23, 10,000 CALIFORNIA GULLS passed Boiler Bay and 20,000 CALIFORNIAS
were off Cape Arago near Coos Bay.

During the week SURF SCOTERS were reported at the Sheridan Sewage Ponds,
Vancouver Lake, Westmoreland Park in Portland, and near Cascade Locks with a
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. Fifteen were at Lost Lake Reservoir on the Rogue River,
eight were at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend, and 20 off Hayden Island in
North Portland.

On October 21 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was with 34 MARBLED GODWITS on Coos Bay.
On October 22 two LAYSAN ALBATROSS were seen on a boat trip out of Newport.
On October 24 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW visited a feeder at the Hatfield
Science Center in South Beach. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was near Toledo October
25. On October 23 a ROCK SANDPIPER was on Barview Jetty at Tillamook Bay.

Near Cascade Locks October 25 were an ANCIENT MURRELET and three EURASIAN
WIGEON. An immature HEERMANN?S GULL was seen October 20 at the Koll Wetlands
in Beaverton. That day a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was at Tryon State Park. A
NORTHERN SHRIKE was at Ankeny NWR October 22.

On October 23 a LONG-TAILED DUCK was at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend.
Another was at the LaGrande Sewage Ponds October 26. A NORTHERN SHRIKE,
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and a GREEN HERON were seen October 24 at Rhinehart
Bridge near Elgin. A BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and BLACK and GRAY-CROWNED
ROSY-FINCHES were on Steens Mountain during the week-end.
