Wednesday afternoon I spotted a red-tailed hawk perched on a telephone pole on Pt. Edwards.?? A worker was clearing weeds from the hillside below. I suspect the hawk was waiting to see if the activity would stir up some rodents.??? Sometimes you can have bad luck photographing raptors. From my position, the hawk was backlit, which made for poor photos. After waiting over a half hour for the hawk to make its move, I climbed up the hill in the hope of getting a better lighting angle.

I no sooner did that when the hawk swooped down for a kill.??Had I remained in my original spot, the hawk would have flown directly at me and would have eaten its kill very close to me.??After eating its kill, it flew circles high over town.? Even with my big honkin' lens,??photographing the hawk was very frustrating, as it was either backlit or in the shade. Telephoto shots were difficult due to distortion caused by the heat waves
