Subject: [Tweeters] tansy ragwort

Hi, tweeters.

Just to lessen goldfinch anxiety, tansy ragwort seeds are not poisonous, as far as I know; only the leaves, stems, and - interestingly - pollen. Not sure about the other flower parts. Seeds, carrying the embryos of plants, are rarely poisonous. Sometimes seed coats contain toxins to deter herbivores (granivores), but of course finches and rodents strip off seed coats before swallowing the seeds. Pigeons and gallinaceous birds swallow seeds whole, but, again, I think very few seeds of herbaceous plants are poisonous.
