On Monday the 29th I spent a pleasant day on Bethel Ridge. A male black-backed woodpecker was in a burned area of Bethel Ridge Rd. 1.1 miles past the turnoff to Tieton Pond (1.4 mi. from the start of the road). A female black-backed woodpecker and two male three-toed woodpeckers were in the burned woods at the beginning of the road to the microwave tower.

As I was standing in the woods, a curious pine siskin watching me from about ten feet away, a large hawk blew by right next to me. I didn't see it so much as be startled by it. I have no idea whether it caught the siskin or any other nearby bird (there was also a Lincoln's sparrow and a yellow-rumped warbler in the same tree).

Also seen: 5 turkey vultures, red crossbill, Clark's nutcracker, red-tailed hawk, Western wood-pewee, Steller's Jay, red-breasted nuthatch.
