Hi, tweets.

Any time we get east winds in the fall, there is a chance of a flight of Variegated Meadowhawks along the outer coast. They are blown to the coast and pile up there, apparently from some aversion to going out over the ocean (strong winds blow them out there anyway). Their southbound migration is very well known on the Oregon coast, much less so on the Washington coast. I would appreciate hearing from any birders who are out on the coast this weekend and see small brown to reddish dragonflies flying south in any numbers. If you can get some idea of their numbers (or how many pass a certain point in 5 minutes) and flight direction, I would love to know about it. Actually, I'd like to know about it if you spend the day on the outer coast and don't see any such thing.

There are some resident meadowhawks out there, so my interest is only in whether you see good numbers in directed flight.

Thanks!

Dennis
