I birded the Fife Ponds and along Marine View Drive this morning in Pierce County. The highlight was one juvenile Franklin's Gull with 30 Bonaparte's Gulls roosting on the log booms off of Marine View Drive. This was my first Franklin's for Pierce. Also present along the drive was 150 plus California Gulls, 2 Common Terns, 1 Black Turnstone, 1 Pied-Billed Grebe in the salt water and 20 Band-tailed Pigeons flying along the cliffs by the road. Earlier on Friday, Sept. 2nd several of us got to see the Wandering Tattler that had been present for a few days near the Dick Gilmur turnoff. It wasn't present on Sat. nor today.
The Fife Ponds had 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 5 Western Sandpipers, a few Killdeer. Thought I had a Solitary Sandpiper but I believe it was a hunkered down yellowlegs after further review. Leaving the ponds heading south by Sportco, I had a flock of Western Scrub Jays fly over, maybe 15 or so.
