Hi, just a very quick note to mention that shorebirds are a hoppin' around the harbors. One of the two RUFF reported by Denny Granstrand the other day, was still present yesterday morning at Tokeland's Graveyard Spit. The past two days at Bottle Beach have been rewarding with two BAR-TAILED GODWIT amongst the myriad of other shorebirds. Yesterday Barry J. reported a Hudsonian Godwit and both species of Golden-Plover at Bottle Beach, but I believe I was just a bit too late to catch up with them. Midway Beach has had the 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and 6 or so PECTORAL SANDPIPER amongst other birdies. A headless Sabine's Gull was in the middle of a seldom used road at Ocean Shores.
I have had the occasion to binocular search for the Queen Eider on perhaps a dozen occasions since April and have thus far struck out. She was easier to find the previous two years, so perhaps she is no longer with us. I do believe she could still linger and I will keep trying... wish I could carry my scope at work.
