Hello All,

The previously announced gravel project on the River S Unit is now scheduled.
Please note the dates, as they will impact public access to the River S Unit
over the next few weeks. Also, please share these dates with those within your
Refuge community that may benefit from this information.




Closure of the River ?S? Unit; Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

The River ?S? Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge will be
closed starting Monday, September 12th through Wednesday, September 28th for
road improvements to the Auto Tour Route. While the River ?S? Unit is
closed, new gravel will be added to the Auto Tour Route, additional vehicle
passing turnouts will be constructed, and a short segment of road will be
realigned to reduce wildlife disturbance.


The closure will impact all public use facilities associated with the River
?S? Unit including the entire length of the Auto Tour Route, the
observation blind, and the Kiwa Trail. The Refuge?s Carty Unit will remain
open during this period, as an optional Refuge destination. For additional
information concerning the public use opportunities during this closure, please
