Dear Tweeters,

Thanks to Dave Templeton for the heads-up on the Sanderlings at March Point. One Sanderling was there today (9-09-11) in the late afternoon, with 44 Western Sandpipers, right at the very tip of the point.

At Jensen Access was a flock of about 28 BB Plover. With them, roosting on the hummocks to the east, was a single RED KNOT. A few dowitchers flew back and forth at high tide, and at least 8 Pectorals and hundreds of Westerns were flying around.

At Hayton Preserve at sundown, a few Greater Yellowlegs and Short-billed Dowitchers mingled with hundreds of Westerns and a few Leasts. Just as the light was fading, 8 WHIMBRELS flew in to the mud out at the mouth of the slough here. They continued to call, fly around, and alight on the mud out there, as the last of the light faded.

Hundreds of Barn Swallows were flying along the shoreline at Fir Island this evening.
