I wholeheartedly agree that folks the field staring at their handheld devices while in the field is annoying. But where is the line drawn,technology-wise?
My hearing is less than stellar and I've had hearing aids since age eight. Should I not wear them when birding? I struggle with that question all the time since I didn't learn birdsong during my formidable years. So with my phone app that has birdsongs that I can replay and my hearing aids (which are less than perfect) I strive and work really hard to identify birds. Does this make me annoying?
Technology can be abused. But should we stop tagging birds with gps so we can find out where they migrate? Should I stop wearing my hearing aids so I can observe nature as a 'human'?

Life is good if you observe nature everyday!
