Monday, the Juncos--first harbingers of autumn here in Cinebar--arrived
at my feeders. I knew they would be coming because the six pair of
Black Headed Grosbeak and two pair of Purple Finch that spent the summer
here were gone by the end of August. I am still seeing one of the four
male Goldfinches, but I have not seen a female for several days, which
is not unexpected since they leave in Sept most years. There are,
however, at least 8 juveniles here; usually, they stay until October.

One strange thing that has happened is the diappearance of the
Black-capped Chickadees. Usually there are a half dozen or so here all
year round. They were here on August 23, flying around as usual with
the Chestnut-backed and the Nuthatch--all of which are still here. But
by the first of September, the Black caps had all disappeared.
