Today's walk around Scriber Lake in Lynnwood was very disappointing until I got to the viewing platform at the SE corner of the lake.? I noticed movement in the lilies on the opposite?bank near the outlet where green herons are often seen.??I grabbed a few shots of a bird I had never before?seen.? I was hoping it was the elusive Virgina rail, but?a check of my Washington state bird book revealed it to be a sora.??
?
I don't whether or not a sora at Scriber Lake is unusual.?? According to the bird ?book,?soras are seldom present in?western Washington in the summer.? Autumn, however,?is?but a week away and few birds regularly check calendars.
