Dear Tweeters,

Ryan Merrill located a drake Black Scoter at March Point, and this evening (9-15-2011), I was able to see it. The trick is to find the flock of over 400 Surf Scoters, sometimes just south and east of the point, other times farther south, but still in Padilla Bay. The Black Scoter is with this big flock, and is not always easy to pick out.

Also this evening, a juvenile Franklin's Gull turned up at Jensen Access, foraging just offshore with Ring-billed Gulls. About 10 Whimbrel are still hanging on there, out of the 18 or so that were there on the weekend.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
