Subject: [Tweeters] White-tailed Ptarmigan at Sunrise=YES

Tweeters,
I took a half day off work to hike up to Fremont Lookout this morning. I
spent an hour at the lookout with nothing to show for it but a flock of
goats down below and a Pika that watched me eat my snack. However, on the
way back down as I was crossing the rockslide I looked up above me at one of
the hummocks and saw a very white rock. Once I got my binoculars up, the
white rock turned out to be the underside of a WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN
perched on a rock. It wasn't a great view, 150 feet up hill, in the shade,
with the sun directly behind it, but I was still pretty happy to finally
find one. I got a few pictures that turned out OK.

Also of interest, on the way up before the sun came up, there were five
SOOTY GROUSE along the road, first one female and then four juveniles later.
