Sherry and I, and Lonnie Somers, who was able to join us at the spur of the moment, went to Tacoma for the Black-tailed Gull.
We arrived a little after 9:30am. Only a few gulls, the FRANKLIN'S GULL, and 2 BLACK TURNSTONES were present. We then decided to try birding at the Dash Point fishing pier. We were rewarded with hundreds of BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 HEERMANN'S GULLS, 7 COMMON TERNS, 6 RHINO AUKLETS, 1 CASPIAN TERN, and 3 HORNED GREBES. Then it was back to the log booms. Even less gulls. So off to the Freight House Square for lunch. After a nice meal, we were off to Point Defiance Park. We took the 5 mile drive and stopped at the Dalco Passage view point. We got lucky and found 4 PARASITIC JAEGERS sitting on the water. Definetly needed the scope here. So back to the log booms. We arrived around 2:30pm and the BLACK-TAILED GULL was already found. Also back was the FRANKLIN'S GULL, Many BONAPARTES' GULLS, and 1 HEERMANN'S GULL were seen.
