Two southbound flocks of WHITE-FRONTED GEESE today over the house, first at
5:13pm, and another straight up overhead at 7:03pm (30 exactly). Didn't
see the first flock (trees), just heard them but immediately dashed to the
computer (Cornell website) to confirm what I thought I was hearing. No
such problem with the second flock, same calls and these ones viewed very
nicely, and good thing I had the bins at the instant ready. 2nd and 3rd
records for the yard since 1993. Add the earlier yard first TURKEY VULTURE
(12:59pm) and it was a good day to stay home.

As a bonus In the interesting behavior department, a brief early afternoon
downpour sent a whole bevy of Anna's Hummingbirds into simultaneously
bathing mode, wings and tails all splayed out taking in the shower while
preening in addition to a male Golden-crowned Kinglet and some Chestnut-backed
Chickadees doing the exact same thing, all sort of communal bathing from open
perches in just one short 20' stretch of shrubbery. Pretty amazing. Not
unusual to see one bathing like that now and then, ...but the whole
crowd?!?
