Hello All,
I had a very successful hike to the Mt Fremont lookout out of Sunrise Sat
morning. I found a Western Scrub Jay just as I attained Sourdough Ridge
which is at about 7000 feet elevation. Later a Prairie Falcon hovered
above Mt Fremont before moving on.
Once I passed Frozen Lake I took a lot of time scanning the scree slopes
and half way to the lookout found four Grey Crowned Rosy Finches that
allowed extended looks.
I could not find Ptarmagan at the lookout itself but did locate two birds
on the NE side of the large basalt outcrop several hundred yards south of
the lookout. The birds were actively moving about among the large boulder
field and a treat to watch.
On the way down there were four female/immature goldeneye on Frozen Lake.
They were too far away to tell which species without a scope.

On Sun at Pt-No-Pt a flock of about 200 Bonaparte Gulls flew into the area
at about 8:30 AM-about 11/2 hours before low tide. The black tern was with
the flock and two Parasitic Jaegers intermittantly harassed them. The
activity continued until about 11AM- 1 hour after low tide- and then the
birds disappeared.
Also, at about 7:30 AM I watched a mixed flock of sparrows along the road
to the lighthouse. It included Spotted Towhees, White Crowned, Golden
Crowned and Song Sparrows. But the most numerous sparrow was Lincoln's. I
counted 20 but there may have been more than that because the group was
moving about.
Good Birding
