Hey tweets, the UW Botanic Gardens has asked me to send you a plea for
some citizen-science help during their second annual Bioblitz at the
Arboretum on Friday Oct. 21 and Saturday Oct. 22. Bioblitz is an
attempt to catalog every living thing within the 230-acre site during
one 24-hour period.

I participated last year, and it was tons of fun. Last year's event
was during spring, and I got to hear singing Hutton's Vireos, a bird I
have seen only once at the Fill in 25 years of birding there. There
were also numerous Western Tanagers, all making noises of various
sorts - another valuable experience for me, whose birding-by-ear
skills are, sadly, still at the lower end of the bell curve.

The second Bioblitz might produce some very interesting straggling
passerines in migration, numerous residents, and good woodpeckers. We
might also see the resident Barred Owls.
